Make Yogurt At Home!
- 500 mL/2 cups milk (I use 3.25% homogenized milk by Beatrice)
- 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt to act as the culture (this will turn your milk into yogurt). Brown families are notorious for making their own dahi/yogurt so getting a tablespoon of premade dahi is never a problem. However, if this is your first time making yogurt, I recommend that you get 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt that you can find at your local grocery store.
- I recommend using PC 3% Plain Yogurt
- In a pot that is safe to use on the stove, boil 2 cups of milk on medium/low heat
- Careful not the burn the milk (always keep an eye on the stove). Once the milk has come to a boil, turn off the stove and let it cool (it should be luke warm)
- In a designated pot (I personally think clay pots - as the one you see in my picture below - work the best, but you can also use a glass container), add 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt that will act as the culture to give your boiled milk the yogurt consistency.
- Add in the luke warm milk and stir well. Cover your pot/container and store aside (I recommend putting it in your oven so that you do not touch it) for 8 - 10 hours. You can also wrap your pot/container with a cloth to keep it warm.
- After 8 - 10 hours, you will have your own, homemade yogurt :)
This blog also shows step by step instructions on how you can make your own yogurt/dahi at home with the addition of red chilli peppers.
Enjoy!
